Tragedy at summer camp of AUF Norway
A tragedy has taken place at the Summer Camp of our Friends of AUF, Norway.
A person dressed as a police officer open fired at the AUF Summer Camp in the early evening, today, the 22th of July 2011. Several of our comrades have been shot .The Chair of AUF, Eskil Pedersen as well Ida Spjelkevik, International Secretary, are ok. We don’t have any information of who is hurt.
- Our thoughts are with the friends of AUF, the victims and their families. We have been in contact with friends in AUF to express our condolences and offer our support, says Johan Hassel, IUSY Secretary General and Kaisa Penny, ECOSY President.
ECOSY and IUSY send heartfelt our condolences to our friends and comrades in AUF in Utoya, as well as to every victim of the horrifying attacks in Norway. The reports and images from Oslo are shocking and sickening. Our thoughts today are with our friends in Norway.
IUSY and ECOSY condemn the attacks unreservedly. Whatever the motive, group or cause, such acts are indefensible and abhorrent. They are a reminder of the value and importance of defending an open and tolerant society. We stand with the victims of these attacks, and all those affected by them.
We are all AUF activists and Norwegians today.
