Hearings: Andor concerned about youth unemployment

Today, Commissioner-designate, Laszlo Andor, at the Commission hearing in the European Parliament, agreed that more will be done to tackle youth unemployment. The creation of specific programmes, a youth employment top-level taskforce and earmarking spending to support initiatives fighting youth unemployment were not ruled out.

Andor acknowledged that youth unemployment is a very important issue and throughout the hearing he emphasized the need for the European Parliament, the Commission, Member states and social partners to work together.

Furthermore, Andor declared unpaid jobs to be a serious problem and that there should be ways to intervene.

ECOSY wishes Andor the best of luck and strength in the approval process by the Parliament and hopes Europe will soon see the evidence of these words in the actions Commissioner Andor takes!
