Queer Network Seminar

The first ever ECOSY queer seminar took place under the title of “Combating Homophobia in Europe” from June 22nd till 25th 2006. 25 young socialists from all over Europe discussed in Warsaw the issue of homophobia as a mechanism of discrimination, while being in a country were homosexuality is still considered as a disease and were people, defining themselves as LGBT, are denied their fundamental human rights.

This mandate being the Queer Mandate of the Presidium, the topic was needed to be worked on. We as the Young European Socialists consider it our duty to include the tackle of homophobia in our fight for social justice and equality.

The seminar gave the opportunity to discuss and exchange with politicians, such as the former Polish minister for equality …., and with LGBT NGOs like ‘Kampagnia Against Homophobia’. Furthermore it was also the space to develop further strategies for ECOSY and its member organisations such as the call for the recognition of the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) by the UN and the strive for national campaigns for same sex marriage laws.

The full resolution of the seminar can be downloaded here.
